Today’s Scripture: September 7
“Suddenly, they saw the fingers of a human hand writing on the plaster wall of the king’s palace” (Daniel 5:5).

The two visions of Daniel in today’s reading are similar in many ways. The vision of the four beasts has the same meaning as the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, which we discussed in Daniel chapter 2. Both visions relate to four Gentile world kingdoms that dominated the world in their time.

 
With regards to end time events, many people believe in a literal fulfillment of these prophecies, while others maintain they are mere symbols of spiritual truths. We can all agree that throughout history there have been real persecutors of Jews and Christians alike. Today’s reading foretells the future rising of yet another world dictator, a great and fearsome persecutor of all who follow God.
