The Last Five Kings

Today’s Scripture
“The king of Israel will die in Babylon, the land of the king who put him in power and whose treaty he disregarded and broke” (Ezekiel 17:16).

Notes
The story of two eagles found in Ezekiel 17 can be best understood when one knows how to decipher the two eagles. One of the eagles is Babylon, the other Egypt.

This riddle gives us insight into God’s take on the foreign alliances Israel pursued during the time leading up to the exile and to the treaties they signed and broke. The last of Judah’s kings – all five of them – had problems with surrounding nations. Today’s lesson looks at these last five kings of Judah and how their dynasty came to an undesirable end.

Well done! Whew — you covered so much material but it all fell in place beautifully. Very helpful for my understanding of the eagles, the promise and the prophecy. Really enjoyed this session – thanks!

Hard stuff, but praise God, Israel’s King WILL be on the throne for eternity. What a vision! What a promise!
