Today’s Scripture: November 2
“Then the people who had arrested Jesus led him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of religious law and the elders had gathered” (Matthew 26.57).
Jesus was arrested at night in the Garden of Gethsemane and taken to Annas, the high priest for interrogation. He is tried a total of six times, three in religious court and three in civil court, each coming to an unjust conclusion due to unjust proceedings.
Jesus’ act of going to the cross was an act of voluntary submission. At any time, He could have forcefully prevented the proceedings, yet chose out of obedience to God and love for us to endure the cross. At the cross, our sin was heaped upon him. Today, he sits in heaven likely with the holes still very visible in his hands, feet and side. An only fit and proper response on our part is to live life sinning less, by the power of the Holy Spirit, as we seek to become more like Christ throughout our lifetime.
