Today’s Scripture
“As for me and my family, we shall serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Today, we finish the book of Joshua and see the Eastern tribes being congratulated by Joshua for obeying everything the Lord had said. He sends them home after seven long years of fighting alongside their brothers to go home, enjoy the plunder and live good lives. No sooner do they receive this commendation than they proceed to build an altar on their way home, a questionable action for sure. The western tribes set out in pursuit to find out if this action is in direct violation of a command given by God. In this lesson we discuss the controversy.
We can’t always judge a situation accurately before seeking all the facts from both sides of the issue. It is wise to conduct frank and open communication before jumping to conclusions. The western tribes had jumped to a conclusion about their brothers and were quite surprised to find out the truth. When making judgments about situations in your own life, do you jump to conclusions before seeking answers, or do you wait to render opinion until you hear from both sides?
