Today’s Scripture
“Be quiet and listen! Today you have become the people of the Lord your God” (Deut 27:9).

 

 
Israel is a covenant nation. Today’s reading contains material very important to the early history of the nation. God will be their God and He will be their people, but they must obey the commands of the Lord just as God is faithful to keep His promises.

 
The concept of obedience is found in every period of salvation history. God cannot bless those whose hearts are stubborn and rebel against Him. What is the condition of your heart? There is a code of conduct expected to be lived out – a way of life in kingdom of God – for both Jew & Christian and that is to express love for God and love for people. According to James 2:14, faith without works is dead. We must serve the lord with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits we have received (by giving graciously to others in need) or we will find ourselves hungry, thirsty, naked and lacking in everything (Deut 28:47). How graciously are you giving today?
