Today’s Scripture
“Jehoshaphat sent his officials to teach in all the towns of Judah… He sent Levites… He also sent out the priests… They took copies of the Book of the Law of the Lord and traveled around through all the towns of Judah, teaching the people” (2 Chronicles 17:7-9).
Jehoshaphat, Asa’s son and king of the Southern Kingdom, leads a great revival throughout the entire nation. Not only does he refrain from worshipping Baal, a false idol, he was deeply committed to the ways of the Lord (2 Chronicles 17:6). He removed pagan shrines and unholy worship spaces and sent teachers out with Levites and priests to teach people the Word of God throughout the entire land.
As a result of the king’s actions and the people’s hearing of the Word of God, the fear of the Lord fell over all the surrounding kingdoms so that none of them wanted to declare war on Jehoshaphat. Imagine! This is what happens when a nation studies the Word of God! Their enemies, the Philistines, brought gifts, and the Arabs brought them rams and goats as peace offerings.
