Today’s Scripture
“He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands” (Psalm 78.72).
Psalm 78 gives us a historical recount of many Old Testament stories, providing insider information into God’s feelings and reasons for responding to the Israelites as he did.
When the Israelites were in Egypt, they lived in bondage and servitude. Conditions were harsh, disease was rampant and pleasures were few. With reason, they complained. God did deliver them and personally rescued them from these circumstances. Yet, during their deliverance they again found fault and took the opportunity to complain. They cried out for meat and “delicacies” that they remembered from slavery. This displeased and angered God. Why is it that we expect deliverance to always be trouble-free?
