Today’s Scripture
“God devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him” (2 Samuel 14:14).

 

 
In yesterday’s reading, Nathan told David that one of the punishments for his son was that the sword will never depart from your home. Today, we see the beginning of this promise fulfilled. Absalom, David’s son avenges the disgrace of his sister, Tamar, by Amnon. As a result, Absalom lives in exile for three years, returns to Jerusalem, but is refused by his father, David, for an additional two years.

 
Estrangement from any family member can be disheartening and very difficult. Estrangement from God can be equally difficult. When circumstances depend on us to heal, we should seek reconciliation. Other times, circumstances are without our power to control. Yet, God always devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from Him (2 Samuel 14:14). If you are waiting for Him to restore a family member to you, rest in His timing. He is Restorer, Healer, and the Great Reconciler.
