Today’s Scripture
“But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6b).
Saul dies today in the battle and Israel needs a new king. David responds with weeping and fasting and mourns over the death of Saul, his friend Jonathan, Israel and the army.
We can learn from the life of David a model of action when we find ourselves in trouble. Surprising to many, David responded to the death of Saul with tears. He mourned the loss of the man who had hunted him for over a decade, who hurt him, caused his exile and made him fear for his life. Yet, David never responded with retribution. Can we possibly learn to love our enemies like this?
